You may have been affected by problems in Florida's current long-term care system. Florida provides several services to help frail elders avoid nursing home care by getting care at home. These programs include Community Care for the Elderly, the Nursing Home Diversion Project, the Medicaid Aged and Disabled Waiver, the Assisted Living Waiver, the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative and others.
However, funding is limited and many Floridians bide their time on waiting lists for these programs. The St. Petersburg Times is writing about these issues in an upcoming story.
